Social Robotics

Description

In this research area, we approach social robotics from two sides:

  • From the technical side, we design robots that should eventually be more sociable, and ready to enter the human social environment - in daily lives, as well as in contexts of more complex needs: elderly-, health- and child-care;
  • From the human side, we examine the fundamental mechanisms of social perception and cognition elicited during human-robot interactions.

By measuring implicitly the human engagement in an interplay with a robot (through e.g., behavioral measures, EEG/ERP, eyetracking), we hope to understand what parameters of robot appearance and behavior are crucial for acceptance of robots as social companions.
